Be clear on the strategy, the type of investor you want, and the ideal investor profile – large vs. small, local vs. regional vs. international, and a long-term partner vs. the highest bid strategy for each project. Keep in mind not all investors are equal as some have extensive experience in the local market while others are interested yet not experienced. Some investors are fully funded (usually the large funds or Independent Power Producers), while many smaller investors are committed but not funded. This means they need to go to their limited partners (LPs) or investor network for second-level investment committee review – which will add time to the process.
